Reverse Your Worry

Are you in a spin cycle of worry? Would you like to reverse your worry?
Worry is worship in reverse. It’s believing what’s in you is not able to handle what’s going on around you. Worry is meditating on the lies of the enemy rather than the promises of God. Jesus had a lot to say about the subject of worry. In Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus said...“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. (these are shallow things to worry about) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Reverse your worry. It’s time to turn your stinkin’ thinkin’ around. Why do you worry? Do you have a list of things you are worried about? Are you not worth more than a BIRD? The ONE that has already seen the end from the beginning has already declared a great outcome for you. So why are you worried? What are the reasons you worry? We worry not so much about what’s happening around us but if what’s in us is strong enough to handle what’s happening to us. What do you worry most about? What keeps you up at night? What causes your mind to start spinning? A thought you don’t take captive can start spinning. You must not take hold of a negative thought or it will start spinning in your mind. You must not hold that thought or it will take you into a spin cycle of stress. Worry is circular. Worry is just going round and round. God is not telling us to be like birds. He is telling us to OBSERVE the birds and consider what they know that you don’t. They know what you don’t because they live at a higher altitude that you do. In order to consider the birds you’ve gotta look up and stop looking all around you at your circumstances to make sense of your life. As long as you look around you, you just spin around and around and around. You must break this cycle by considering that there is a God that is above you, who has gone before you, that lives in you, that is always FOR and that you are called, named, chosen and set apart by Him. When you do this you see yourself at a different level.
What does if feel like when you’re spinning? Get up right now and try it. Spinning is a motion...you go around and around and around but go nowhere. You end up at exactly the same place you started except now you are dizzy and can’t see straight. This is what it’s like to toss and turn over stuff you can’t control. It usually starts as an innocent thought. The devil has been at this game for a long time. He’s going to give you an innocent thought and get you to take it in the wrong direction. A scenario that doesn’t seem so bad becomes huge because of the way you spin it. The news media has this down pat. They all tell the same stories but spin it in different ways. How you SPIN it determines how you SEE it! When you are spinning you are not making any progress on your problem. The spinning makes you so dizzy by the time you face a real life challenge you don’t have the equilibrium to apply the effort that would create a desired result. You are so dizzy you don’t know what to do or who to trust.
Have you been spinning? Jesus said look up at the birds, look at the flowers. Notice something that the flowers don’t do that your mind has been doing lately. Verse 28 says they don’t labor or spin. The birds don’t store away. If God made YOU in His image then what makes you think you have to spin away in these tormenting cycles? It’s the little things we start worrying about. “My daughter is 7 yrs old and I don’t know how I’m going to ever pay for college. And what if she doesn’t have the grades to get in? Or the grades to get a scholarship? That C she just got on that spelling test is a sign that she’ll never go to college. She is headed straight for a job at McDonald’s.” You see how it works. Your kid is seven years old and you have her working at McDonald’s. The enemy plants a thought and your mind starts spinning. Stop spinning! Stop worrying about what God is already working on and start worshipping Him. Turn that problem into a praise! Worship is worry in reverse. Worry is when I start with my situation and I spin around, around and around. God says stop spinning and instead of starting your meditation with your situation start with your SOURCE. When you know WHO your Father is it sends you spinning in a different direction. I know who He is, I know what He’s done, and I know what He’s going to do!
Stop spinning! It’s not working! Look at the Israelites. They spinned for 43 years in the wilderness! Why are you worried? Is it working? Think about the day we live in today. We are constantly bombarded with breaking news. It’s difficult for us to have priorities today because we’re being fed so much fear. When your father feeds you He builds your faith. When you start with your source you end with your source. When you start with God you end with God. When you start with fear you end up with fear. If you start with shortage you end with shortage.
2 Kings 6 is a great Old Testament story that illustrates this point. Gehazi The servant woke up and found that they were surrounded by their enemy, the Armenians. “Oh my Lord we are surrounded...what will we do?” Elisha could have prayed that God would destroy the enemy that surrounded the camp but he didn’t.
He prayed something more powerful. You see, rather than God taking your enemies away He wants you to see beyond them.
He wants your faith to see beyond your problems. The first circle is the enemies and they are real. Elisha prayed that the servants eyes would be opened and he would see that there are more with them than against them. So the first circle says I’m overwhelmed, I’m outnumbered and there is nothing I can do. And on the surface this is true. But when the servant opened his eyes he saw the second circle. There was a host of angel armies surrounding the first circle. What was on the outside was greater than what was on the inside. Whatever is surrounding you God is already surrounding it. Our peace is dependent on whether we can SEE the SECOND circle. It is the God of peace that crushes the enemy under our feet. When you live in the first circle (natural realm) it’s never enough. When you start with lack you end with lack. When you start with El Shaddei who is more than enough you end with more than enough. So reverse your worry.
Your Father knows you have a need. You don’t start with the need, because if you start with the need you will end with the need. If you start with a God who knows what you need you will end up with a God that supplies above and beyond what you can ask, think or imagine.
Reverse your worry. Jesus says look at the birds and the flowers. He takes care of them and they are not made in His image. He takes care of the lesser He will surely take care of you. If He is taking care of that level of detail don’t you think He has already determined your expected end. If He can do that surely He can do this. There are some things in your life that you have already had manifest. If He can do that don’t you think He can handle what you’re currently facing?
One of the most famous and most important scriptures in the Bible is Matthew 6:33. If God cares for the lesser He will take care of the greater. If He takes care of the little He will take care of the lot. YOU are the LOT. YOU are valuable to Him. The second circle (supernatural realm) is where we have to live. This verse is a game changer…”when you seek first his kingdom and His righteousness, and ALL these things will be given to you as well.” Notice He says seek HIS righteousness, not your own. Not what you drink, or what you wear. Not your ideas and appearances. Isn’t is funny that we’re still posting today, 2,000 years later, the same things that Jesus said not to worry about? What we ate and what we wore. It’s so circular. We’re still worried about the same things. How am I going to make it? How am I going to pay my bills? What we eat is survival. What we wear is status. We go around and around in circles with these two. If only we would take the advice of Jesus. If only we would start with the Kingdom God will give you the things you seek. If you seek first His kingdom and His righteousness all of the things you have been wearing yourself out to get HE WILL GIVE YOU! You protect what you value. You protect what you prize. Your peace should be important to you and you should be protecting it above ALL else. Anytime you have a lack of peace it is because something is wrong with your priorities. It’s not the absence of problems that creates the presence of peace. Sometimes in the midst of your greatest problems you will have the greatest peace. I know it doesn’t make sense to your natural mind but it is true nonetheless. You will experience your deepest peace while in the midst of your greatest problem, because it is in your problem that you find Jesus. HE is your peace. Problems help us clarify priorities. If you are not seeking the kingdom and are seeking the things you are running after the things that the pagans ran after. And it will be like you don’t even have a real God in your life.
Can you listen to a 30 minute grace message without grabbing your phone? We put more importance on a possession than we do our peace. In order for you get your peace back you have to get your priorities straight. When you start with God you end with God. You trust God. You invest your treasure in the ONE that you trust. Tithing is about trust. When you set aside this portion for God you start spinning yourself towards the kingdom of God and then you can trust Him to take care of your needs. It’s about training your heart to trust God. Aren’t you sick of spinning like the world spins? If we are going to worry like the world worries then how are we going to win the world that we worry just like? The distinguishing factor of the children of God in the stress filled world we live in is a SUPERNATURAL PEACE. It becomes so attractive to them that we won’t even have to preach to them...they will see our peace and they will want to meet the author and Prince of Peace who is Jesus.
You need to start your day spinning in the right direction. Rather than turning on the news listen to an uplifting grace message. And there are certain people you probably don’t need to speak to the first hour you are at work. They might start you spinning the wrong way. Learn what the flower learned. “If I stay planted my God will supply.” Learn what the bird learned. “If I stay above it my God will supply all my needs”. Whatever is surrounding you God is surrounding it. He loves you and is asking you to live your life from the second circle, trusting Him to take care of your every need. Whatever you are facing today my friend know that God’s grace has already supplied the answer.
Love,
Sherry :-)
