Listen and Obey

I’d known my eye doctor since I was five. Going for my annual check up felt like going to visit an old family friend. I don’t quite remember my age at the time the Lord spoke to my heart, but suffice it to say I’d been seeing Dr. Prevost for almost 25 years when the Lord told me I needed to tell him about God. This was one of the very first times the Lord spoke so clearly to me. Initially it felt like a strong feeling. I had two thoughts with the first being “well that’s just the strangest thing”, and the second being “uh no way, I’m too scared to do that!” Almost two months of wrangling with the Holy Spirit went by and I finally gave in.
I’m not a writer by any stretch of the imagination, but I sat and prayed and put pen to paper. Instantly the Holy Spirit began guiding me and it was like water pouring out of a pitcher, the words just came. He gave me an example to share and everything. I sent the letter out of obedience prayed and waited.
About 7 or 8 weeks past and I got a phone call from my girlfriend. Her step-dad was best friends with Dr. Prevost and they worked out in the gym each morning. The letter stated that Dr. Prevost dropped dead from a heart attack. This happened about 2 months after I had sent him the letter explaining the way of salvation to him. While I was beyond sad that he was no longer with us; I rejoiced at the fact that God spoke to Dr. Prevost and that he got to hear the gospel message before he died.
God’s ways are always higher than our ways and I trust He knows what’s best. I also learned a great lesson in that when the Holy Spirit speaks to us it is always best to listen and obey.
