Are You Weary?

Are you wondering just how much longer you can do this?  How much longer you can endure?

Weary means exhausted in strength and endurance. When you are weary you have no vigor or freshness left; your patience and tolerance are exhausted and you find no pleasure in anything. What should you do? Ask for help! Asking for help when you need it is a wise thing. Helplessness before God is a position of power. Never think you can do anything on your own. Apart from God we can achieve nothing of permanence. Don’t ever be too prideful to ask for help. Do you struggle with trying to do everything all your own? Are you not very good at asking for help?

We all get weary. We all get to a point where we feel like giving up. The only one who doesn’t get weary is God (Isaiah 28:40). It’s not really life that makes us weary, it’s the WAY we handle life. Don’t try to change the world (the economy, the people around you, your circumstances), but change your attitude. There was a man who spent many painful years in a Nazi concentration camp that said…”the one thing I will not give these oppressors is my attitude.” You can save yourself a lot of weariness, headaches, stomach aches and sad, depressing days if you’ll just stop trying to figure everything out. Trade that reasoning for some simple childlike trust. Your attitude should be…”I don’t understand why this is happening but I’m trusting God.”  It’s not enough to just think it you have to SPEAK it out loud. In Isaiah 40:29 God tells us that He gives power to the faint and weary. Our lives are strengthened when we run to God in every situation. God refreshes, restores and renews us. What wears us out is trying to do everything on our own. Satan deceives us into thinking that we don’t have time in our busy day to seek God but this is a huge lie. The truth is that spending that little amount of time with God in the morning will save you all kinds of time in your afternoon and evening. He not only saves you time but multiplies it! Think about it…one creative idea from God can save you 40 hours of work!

We also need to learn how to wait on God. To wait on God does not mean to be passive but to be spiritually active. It means you’re looking for and longing for God. You are expecting Him to show up at any moment. We need to live with positive expectancy and not this doom and gloom attitude we see so prevalent in the world today. It is this attitude of expectancy that demonstrates our faith to God. When a crisis comes your way you should do what you can do and give God what you cannot do. For example, let’s say you’re looking for a job. You go to the interview with positive expectancy of getting the job. You do your part by going on the interview.  Now, you give the rest to God. You can’t control whether you get hired or not. You can’t make the person doing the interview have favor with you, but God can. Miracles come in “can’s.” You can control your attitude. You can create a resume. You can prepare for the interview. You can go on the interview. You can have a positive attitude during the interview. When you do what you CAN you will find yourself running into all kinds of miracles.

When should we ask God for help? The minute you feel weary go spend some time with God. If you’re at work and feel your attitude slipping go to the bathroom and ask God for help. When you’re home with the kids and you are feeling irritated and short tempered go and lock yourself in a room and seek God. Satan seeks to wear you out my friend (Daniel 7:25).  His goal is to frustrate you and get you to a point of utter exhaustion, because he knows that when you are worn out you are powerless to make good decisions. When we’re weary it’s a dangerous place to be because we are out of balance. When we’re weary we tend to overeat and overspend. We get grouchy, feel sorry for ourselves and we tend not to resist temptation. That double hot fudge sundae that you normally wouldn’t touch looks mighty tempting when you’re worn out. The good news is that God has provided an answer for our weariness….it’s the supernatural rest of God. In Matthew 11:28 He says “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened and I will cause you to rest. (I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls)."

Only Jesus can provide us the “rest” to deal with the stresses of this world. God never promised us a trouble free world but He did tell us we could rise above it. (Isaiah 40). Have you ever seen people who just seemed to be peaceful and happy regardless of what was happening in their lives? Have you ever wondered what their big secret was? It’s the supernatural rest of God. It’s “supernatural” because you can’t get this kind of rest and peace in this crazy world. This is a major reason why prescription drug abuse is at an all time high. People are trying to find this “rest” in drugs. They are medicating themselves to death. They are searching for ways to deal with their weariness. There is only ONE place to find the peace we are all looking for and that is the rest of God.

Did you know that eagles don’t run from a storm? Chickens run at the first sight of a storm but not the mighty eagle. Eagles have tunnel vision. When they see a storm coming from way off they wait for it. They take advantage of it by running to it. The storm lifts them up and they fly above it. They fly high above the storm, in the sunshine, and look down upon it. They use the storm to lift them up higher. God only allows storms (hard things) to come into our lives if they’re intended to work out for our good. He uses the storm to lift us up higher and make us stronger. God also promises us prosperity during times of famine. God’s house will never lack. God’s house never faces a recession. It always has more than enough. So many people are wearing themselves out because they are caught up in the negativity of the world and the global economic crisis. You can see the look of worry and fear on their faces. Do you watch a lot of news? This is the worst thing you can do. Your source for prosperity is NOT the world! It is NOT Wall Street! It is NOT your 401K! It is NOT your job! Your source is God! God uses famine to demonstrate his limitless resources and man’s limited means.  Isaac did not lack in Genesis. There was a severe famine in the land and God told Isaac not to go to Egypt but to stay in Gerar. Isaac obeyed God and had plenty.

Do you know why God instructed Noah to put windows only on the roof of his ark and not on the sides? God did not want Noah and his family looking outside at all of the death and destruction from the flood. He only wanted them looking up and know that they were safe in the midst of the destruction. The ark is a picture of Jesus Christ.  God doesn’t want us looking around the world at all of the famine, destruction, and global crisis. He wants us to look up to Him…up to where all of our blessings come. This is why you shouldn’t watch the news…it depresses you! Why would you trust someone who never gave his life for you? You cannot live by sight my friends. If something is visible it is temporal...one day it will pass away. What is invisible is eternal. Your spirit is eternal. We have to depend on the invisible.  God cannot lie. He has promised prosperity to those who put their confidence in Him (Ephesians 17:5-8). Is your confidence in the world or in God? Who is your source?

The world today has been brought to a place where we have no choice but to depend on God. It is a good thing to feel vulnerable because it means you are no longer self reliant. We must be God reliant if we are to prosper and have the abundant life that God has waiting for us. If you’re feeling weary today please know that God is calling your name. All you need to do is ask for His help. He is with you my friend. You do not have to make this journey alone.  Choose to walk in faith and not by sight and watch as God pours out His blessings into your life!

God Bless You,

In Christ, Sherry :-)
