14 Days of Prayer: Day 13

Good Afternoon Sisters,

Are you resting? In Matthew 11"28 Jesus says "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." REST is a key word for this season.

Michele’s message last night before prayer really resonated in my heart. She talked about how important it is that we REST our soul during this time. Rather than seeking the Lord for what He can do for us we need to simply be in His presence. The fatigue, stress and worry that is weighing people down was here long before the virus. She was spot on when she said that Psalm 23 is God’s heart for His people. It’s the Psalm of REST. When we are at rest we do not worry, we do not strive to control everything around us. We surrender. We sit still in the presence of God and allow Him to pour into us, refresh us and draw up deep into the shelter of His wings. He wants to take our burdens and fill our cups with joy and peace. Right now we have an opportunity to spend time with Him and ask “God, what’s on your heart?

People are so busy today they simply don’t know how to rest. They don’t know how to slow down. They don’t know how to just BE in the moment. There is so much beauty around us that we fail to see because we are running here, running there and don’t know how to just be still.

And in all of the busyness there is still a restlessness that you see on people. A restlessness that comes from not spending time with the only one that can satisfy your soul.

Jesus never got in a hurry. He never worried. The best way to describe Him is REST. Peace is the most valuable thing Jesus left us.

I listened to a message this morning by a pastor from Ghana. He said “light is everything” Without light you cannot see. And what you cannot see you cannot confront. And what you cannot confront you cannot conquer. So the trick of the enemy is to keep us in ignorance, to keep us in darkness.” Being “BUSY” (buried under Satan’s yoke) is one of his primary strategies of keeping God’s children in darkness. STILL is the opposite of BUSY. When we sit still at the feet of Jesus He sheds light into the darkness that grips our lives. He shines light into the areas of our bondage. He sheds light into our wounds. He sheds light in the areas of confusion. He sheds light into areas of addiction, anxiety and depression.

The Lord tells us that His people are destroyed because they lack revelation of who they are and who He who is. In order to have this revelation we must spend time with Him, in HIS word.

There was one man that truly understood what it meant to be STILL. Smith Wigglesworth was one of the greatest faith healers of our time. Through his ministry thousands were brought to the Lord, hundreds healed and fourteen raised from the dead. He understood that His peace, his power and his strength came from God.  Smith put God FIRST in his life. He would not get out of the bed in the morning before his fellowship time with God. After his quiet time with the Lord he would jump out of bed and sing 10-12 minutes delighting himself in the Lord...telling himself WHO HE WAS. When people would ask him how he feels he would sayI don’t ask Smith Wigglesworth how  he feels I TELL him how he feels.” He was a man who loved the Holy Spirit and understood that He was the guiding force in his life. One of his most famous quotes is I’m 1,000 times bigger on the inside than I am on the outside.” Your spiritual capacity should always be bigger than your intellectual and physical capacity.

The Lord wants you to have a healthy soul and the only way to have one is to REST. A healthy soul is at rest. It is not emotionally distraught. It doesn’t worry or become anxious. It is not grace with guilt or shame. It has found its home in Christ and trusts Him to take care of all of its concerns. The wonderful truth is that you can have JOY in the midst of your problems. You don’t have to wait for the storm to pass. He gives you a supernatural rest that only He can give. When we are at complete rest in our mind, will and emotions we are free from the tyranny of circumstances and people that upset us. This is true freedom. Our part is to keep pressing forward and not give up. God promises in Philippians 1:6 that He will complete the good work He begins in us. So today I encourage you to sit at his feet, cast all of your cares on Him and REST.
